Preparation Meets Opportunity

Pre-Trip Nerves, Jitters and Excitement

All good writers write in the middle of the night, right? That's what I usually see in the movies. Of course, my dream is to have a house on the lake with a little, rickety wooden writing desk that faces the water. Dreamy, right? Well, it's 1:00am (EST) and of there's no better time than now to write to my heart's desire. I love writing and being creative in the middle of the night (or middle of the morning for some). Some say vampires come out at night, I say writers come out at night.

I'm less than 6 days away from being in the City of Lights! Wahoo, hence the title that I chose for this travel blog/vlog, Lumiere et Sel (Light and Salt). The last time that I visited Paris was 2010, I was on my way back to the U.S. from Florence, Italy. After studying abroad in Florence, how could I not visit my favorite city on God's green earth!? I've loved France since I was eleven years old. (And, what I loved about her is that she had so much soul...) My love for the city of Paris and the country of France pre-dates a lot of things in my life. I knew about France before I really knew about myself. Perhaps, this is why the country has grown as I have grown. And now, I have chosen her as my partner for 33 days. We'll see the beautiful, story book lavender fields in Provence (French Riviera) as well as the stunning and oh, so classy, Monte Carlo. We'll also rummage through dusty, old bookstores and of course, stare at the Mona Lisa at Le Louvre. Paris is an art lovers dream, with it's endless museums, jazz clubs, theaters and architecture. The last time I was there, I didn't even see 1/10 of what I wanted to see in just 3 days!

But, of course, I'm getting way ahead of myself. The real reason that I'm going to France is because I'll be teaching English to 2 amazing, elementary age children in Southern France. I've never been more excited to live in a house with 6 kids and be their part-time teacher! Yep, I said it, 6! For this former elementary teacher though, I think I can totally handle it. I'm wondering if my Nerf gun, slinky, and fidget spinner will fit in my checked bag (along with a month's worth of clothes)? I guess I'll find out! While tutoring, I'll also be working on my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate. One must have concrete goals, right? So, I won't just be wanderlust in France. I'll improve my teaching skills and improve my cultural literacy. I also hope to be that much closer to being fluent!

And...perhaps, my friends and family, I will finally start working on that book that I've been telling you guys that I would write!
